CAR HIRE

We have an arrangement for a 10% discount with https://www.rhinocarhire.com/ for our booked guests.  Please ask for the booking discount link once you have paid your deposit.

All the airports have major car hire company desks, but a more relaxing option is to take the train from Toulouse to Rodez and hire a car at Rodez. It is a glorious train journey and only takes about 2 hours.

TOLLS

If you travel by motorway through France there are tolls.  You can pay as you go using Visa (credit or debit), MasterCard or cash.  The other option is a tag for your vehicle through “Sanef” which involves an initial upfront cost of the tag – €39.20. This includes a €20 a refundable deposit that you get back if you return the tag. There is also a €6 annual fee which is included in the initial cost and is then payable each year that you have the tag. The tolls themselves are the same price as you would pay if you paid by cash or card at the toll plaza, but you also pay 5 euros a month each month you use the tag (but only up to a maximum of 10 euros in any one year). Payment for the service is by direct debit from a UK bank account and you receive a monthly statement detailing your tolls.

Here is the link to the Sanef site for English speaking travellers https://www.saneftolling.co.uk

BY ROAD

There are obviously various routes across the channel. The fastest and most regular is the fantastic Eurotunnel http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/home/
Otherwise we recommend searching online for channel ferry crossings either direct through the Ferry lines:

P&O Ferries
http://www.poferries.com

DFDS Seaways
http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/

Brittany Ferries
http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk

Stena Line

or using one of the many sites offering deals such as:

Travel Supermarket

Directions once in France

As part of our service once we have received your booking confirmation we provide suggested routes including full details on how to find your holiday cottage, full address details and GPS co-ordinates. The drive time from Calais or Boulogne is about 10 hours not including stops for breaks or fuel.

FROM CHANNEL PORTS

To help you plan your journey, especially if you plan an overnight stay to break the journey, briefly, the best routes down to our region are:

If crossing Dover/Calais or other short crossings, pick up the Paris signs A26 E15. After 30-40 kms the auto route divides – follow Paris A1 E15. Follow the Bordeaux/Nantes then Orleans signs around the Paris priphérique taking the A10 to Orleans.

At Vierzon about an hour after Orleans you take the A71 to Clermont Ferrand. The autoroute continues past Clermont toll free to “Massiac” Junction 23 where you should leave the autoroute and continue on the N122 towards Aurillac.

Continue until reaching “Aurillac” and then turn left at the traffic lights marked “Rodez” on the D920 and continue until reaching “Montsalvy”. Follow the D920 road out of Montsalvy past the Spar super market which is open until 7pm towards Entraygues.

If you would prefer to avoid Paris and the traffic on the périphérique, an alternative and much more pleasant route is via Rouen and Chartres. From Calais take the A28 to Abbeville, then the A28 to Rouen, the A13 to Evreux then Dreux and the N12 and N154 to Chartres continuing on the N154 to pick up the N10 to Orleans and continue South as above from Vierzon.

If you‛re crossing to Le Havre or Caen, we would suggest you follow the Paris autoroute then eventually follow the N154 down around Evreux, Dreux and Chartres, and pick up the autoroute north of Orleans.

If crossing from more westerly arrival ports, it is best go via Poitiers and Limoges, and turn left at Uzerche on the N120 through Tulle and Aurillac and then to Montsalvy and Entraygues as described above..

From other directions get to Aurillac by way of your preferred route and follow thereafter the directions we provide with your final booking payment confirmation.

MAKING THE JOURNEY EASIER

We can recommend several “staging posts” to rest and make the journey less arduous.

Flights from Stansted can leave early. In addition to the airport hotels we recommend a hotel in Bishops Stortford as an overnight stay, which is about 10 minutes from the airport. Rooms start at £45 per night. Contact the Little Hallingbury Mill on 01279 726554 or www.littlehallingburymill.netfor full details.

If you are driving and wish to break the journey we are also delighted to recommend Le Christina Hotel in Bourges.  It is a very comfortable hotel with rooms starting at €57 per night and approximately 2½ hours south of Paris, around 3 to 4 hours from the Lot Valley and approximately 5 hours from Provence.  For reservations, please click here:  http://www.le-christina.com/index-en.php.  Please mention Mme Warman.

FROM TOULOUSE (AIRPORT)

From the airport follow the autoroute signs and follow the first signs you see to Albi. Stay on the motorway (A68) to Albi you will need change ready for a Toll.

It is a good road to Albi.  From Albi follow the signs to Rodez

As you drop down into Rodez follow the signs to Clermont Ferrand. This is the by pass around the city. At the 3rd roundabout (which is after passing under an old brick viaduct) you will turn left sign posted Aurillac and Espalion (D988).

Drive through to Espalion and follow main road through town. After going over the river turn left 100 metres on sign posted Aurillac and Entraygues (D920).

Follow this road through Estaing and on to Entraygues.

From Entraygues follow directions to your property as provided with your balance payment confirmation.

Approximate journey time from Toulouse to Entraygues-sur-Truyère 2 & 1/2 hours
