The Cottage

The house is approached by way of steeply inclined driveway. The main entrance to the cottage is from a terrace – up a short flight of stone steps from the car parking area. The entrance leads directly into a large living room and dining area with easy chairs and sofa and a good size dining table to one side. There is a “cantou” (inglenook) fireplace with a wood burning stove in the living room. Off this large room is a well-equipped small kitchen. The stairway leads to the upper floor where there are two bedrooms with one with a double bed and the second with 2 single beds. A bathroom with shower and separate toilet are adjacent to the two bedrooms.

Outside is a wonderful wisteria covered terrace with table and chairs for outdoor dining, overlooking the river Lot below. On the terrace is a separate small annex which houses a utility room with washing machine and another toilet.

The accommodation comprises of:

  • A fitted kitchen with dishwasher, fridge, electric oven and hob,
  • An open plan living and dining area with dining table and chairs and comfortable armchair and sofas.
  • 2 bedrooms: 1 with a double bed & 1 with twin beds.
  • The bathroom has a shower and hand basin. There are 2 separate WC’s

All utilities, end of stay cleaning, bed linen, towels and pool towels are included in the price.

Grounds, pool and surrounding area

Below the cottage there is access to the river Lot, with a wonderful grassed area so visitors can enjoy river swimming, fishing (we can arrange licences) or pure relaxation. A very large steeply terraced garden extends above the house with beautiful views of the river valley.

In May and June watch for the local Lot Valley Moth, Saturnia pyri. It has up to a 6″ wingspan, is green in colour and notably found in the area around Vieillevie and Entraygues.

Les Glycines is a traditional stone cottage, for up to 4 people in the hamlet of Soulou overlooking the River Lot near the historic village of Vieillevie. Soulou consists of just three riverside cottages: Les Glycines being one and the others are Le Four and Soulou cottage, both of which are also under our management. Built of local stone in traditional regional style, this pretty cottage has a lauze tile roof, south facing balconies with wonderful river views and access to river frontage ideal for peaceful picnics in total seclusion for just swimming and relaxing.

Location

The village of Vieillevie has a highly recommended restaurant, charming chateau and local store selling basic supplies, fresh bread and croissants daily and is a short walk down from the house. It is also a post office and internet café. The nearest towns are Entraygues-sur-Truyère (17km) and Montsalvy (14km) where you will find banks, local shops, bakers, bars and restaurants plus weekly markets. The large towns of Aurillac and Rodez are about an hours drive and both offer extensive shopping, culture, restaurants and activities to suit all tastes.
