In France, lunch is 12pm – 2pm, establishments serving food all day are a rarity. In the evening it is best to be at the restaurant by 8.00pm. Any later and they may be reluctant to serve you. In low season, there is no need to book. If you would like us to book a restaurant for you, please phone us.

We have tried to give the most up to date information possible and it is no reflection on the establishment if we have not listed a telephone number or web site address

Fairly “ethnic” eaterie at Le Fel, above Vieillevie. Marinette does lunches rather than evening meals in her house. Lots of the locals go to her and she cooks a set four course menu of local dishes. There is plenty to eat and everyone who went there last year really enjoyed it (allow 3 hours!). You should phone or go and see her in advance as she only caters for the numbers booked.

Try a Burons

If you want to experience a meal of local specialities in a rustic atmosphere, then you must visit one of the so-called Burons. These are old stone barns/cottages (mostly towards the Aubrac), which have been converted fairly basically and provide local dishes (usually no choice). You sit on long tables with benches but the atmosphere is high spirited and there is often a local folk band. The meal usually consists of soup or charcuterie, local sausage and aligot and local cheeses. Sunday lunchtimes are favourite with the locals taking the whole family out to eat and it usually makes for a gay occasion!

The two most convenient Burons are:

Buron de la Sistre
Maye Nauve, 12470 Saint-Chély-d’Aubrac
Tel: 05 65 77 26 46.

From Aubrac, take the road towards St Chely and it’s about 400m out of Aubrac village.

Buron du Burgas
12210, La Terrisse
Tel: 05 65 48 45 80

This buron is just out of Laguiole on the road towards St Flour on the right hand side up a track (signposted). They only operate in July and August. Ask us to telephone to check.
